Is it worth restoring an old piece?
Often, yes, a well-made antique restored properly outlasts and outshines most new furniture, and keeps something with real history. We'll give you an honest opinion first.
Can you match the original fabric or finish?
We can match to the era or freshen it up, your choice. We supply and help you choose, or work with your own material.
Do you pick up and deliver?

Will reupholstering an antique reduce its value?
Done sympathetically, restoring a worn or damaged antique generally protects or improves its value by making it sound and usable again. The key is using appropriate methods and materials, which is where our traditional craft experience matters.

Where a piece calls for it we work in the traditional way, respecting how it was originally built rather than shortcutting with modern fixings that would not suit it. We assess each antique on its own merits and match the approach to the piece.
Can you restore a piece that has woodworm or old damage?
We can address common issues like loose joints, damaged timber and tired frames as part of a restoration, and advise you on anything structural we find along the way. Send photos of the damage and we will tell you what is realistically involved.
Should I keep the original horsehair or springs?
If the original fillings are still doing their job we retain them to preserve the character and integrity of the piece, and only rebuild what has failed. We talk you through what we find so the decision is yours.
How do I know if my old chair is worth restoring?
A solid frame and good bones almost always make restoration worthwhile, since that is the part that cannot be easily replaced. Send us a few photos and we will give you an honest view before you spend anything.
